Accident, Serious Injury, or Illness

Definition:
Emergency where one may be sick or injured.

Priorities:
Immediate concern is to aid the sick or injured student, faculty or staff member.

Steps of Action:

1. Disperse the crowd, if necessary.
2. Administer first aid. A first aid kit is kept in the break room at each campus.
3. Call 911.
4. Call each person whose name appears on the attached emergency contact list.
5. Accompany or follow the affected individual to the hospital if needed.
6. Inform faculty, staff and students of the emergency as needed.
7. Do not commit Shorter University to paying for medical services without authorization of the Assistant Provost, Provost, or President, unless it is a life threatening situation and no one else is available.
