Armed Intruder

Definition:
A person who enters the campus armed, apprehends a school person, or threatens violence.

Steps of Action:

1. Dial 911.
2. Start calling the names listed on the emergency contact list.
3. Lock classroom door.
4. Instruct faculty, staff, and students to move away from the windows and doors and down to the floor near an interior wall that can provide protection.
5. Turn off the lights.
6. Place a sign in the window indicating that the room is occupied and number of injuries, if any.
7. Secure the building by locking the appropriate doors (classrooms, offices, and entrances). same as 3?
8. Await assistance.

Responsible Parties:
Anyone who sees the situation:

1. Call 911
2. Wait for the all clear signal given by the police and/or fire department.

Safety Coordinator:

• Contact the Associate Provost and building management/security.

Faculty/Staff:

• Stay in classrooms or offices, protect students, and take roll.
