Definition:
A fire in the building or on the premises requiring the evacuation of the building.
Signals:
Ringing of the fire alarm.
Steps of Action:
Call 911, no matter how small the fire may be.
Pull the fire alarm.
Report the call immediately to building security (see emergency list).
Close all doors to confine the fire.
Evacuate building to assigned places at least 500 feet from the building (see fire evacuation map posted in all classrooms).
Return to the building only after the all clear is sounded.
Responsible Parties: Safety Coordinator/Security:
Call fire department by dialing 911.
Supervise evacuation and check for injuries.
Check restrooms and other areas for students and faculty.
Faculty:
Take class roster to site to verify head count1
Note: Upon arrival of the fire department, make contact with the officer in charge. Provide information about missing persons, trapped persons, injuries, and other information available about the incident.
