Definition:
An incident that disrupts or has the potential to disrupt the orderly functions of the school, or an isolated disruption that is widespread with large-scale student participation and is a serious threat to students, faculty, and staff.
Signals:
Safety Coordinator or security calls the contacts on the emergency call list.
Steps of Action:
Isolate the disruption. Keep students in the classrooms. Initiate a building lock-down, if necessary, by locking classroom doors, offices, and entrances.
Clear the imediate area, including restrooms and hallways.
Staff members trained in CPR and first aid (if they are not supervising students) should go to the area.
Faculty should not leave students unsupervised int he classroom.
Staff members not supervising students should move to the area of disruption to assist, unless otherwise instructed by the Safety Coordinator, security, or the police.
Responsible Parties: Safety Coordinator/Security:
Assess level of disruption.
Supervise response to disruption.
Prepare incident reports for faculty, staff, and students.
Keep visitors and outsiders from entering the building.
Contact emergency services.
Faculty:
Stay with students. Those not supervising students should move to the area of the disruption.
