Suicide at School


Definition:
A student, faculty or staff member terminating his or her own life at school.

Steps of Action:
  1. Call 911.
  2. Contact the Safety Coordinator or security.
  3. Report the incident to the Associate Provost.
  4. The Safety Coordinator or security should go to the area to secure it properly and safely.
  5. Keep students away from the area.
  6. Send an email to faculty and staff ONLY informing them that a medical emergency has occurred and that they should remain calm.
  7. The Associate Provost will notify the President.

Responsible Parties:
Safety Coordinator/Security:
  1. Report the incident to the Associate Provost.
  2. Call 911.

Faculty:
  • Keep students in class and await further instruction. If the suicide occurred in the classroom, faculty should evacuate the room and take attendance.
